Why this matters if you are citing a number

A figure quoted from a release six months ago may no longer be the official figure. That is not an error by anyone: it is how provisional statistics work. But it does mean a citation should carry the release it came from, not just the number. Every figure on this site names its source table and vintage for that reason, and the methodology page sets out the definitions and the revisions policy in full.

Data Limitations & Caveats

Coverage starts when this site did. The ledger can only record changes it has observed, so it begins with the March 2026 baseline. Revisions the Home Office made before then are not captured here.
Only publisher restatements are listed. Figures on this site can also move because an extraction bug here was fixed. Those are a different thing entirely and are deliberately excluded, because presenting them as official revisions would be false. Each movement is classified before it can appear, and anything unclassified is withheld.
Small changes are expected. The detailed datasets and the summary tables round suppressed low counts independently, so a handful of people either way is normal and is not evidence of a problem.
Provisional periods keep moving. A year marked [p] in the source tables should be expected to change again in the next release.
