How to read this map

  • What it shows. The number of people receiving Home Office asylum support (Section 95/98/4) in each local authority, by accommodation type, from the Home Office's Asy_D11 dataset for the quarter ending 30 June 2026.
  • Not per head of population. Larger and more urban authorities tend to support more people; the map is not adjusted for local population. Use the council table for exact figures.
  • Hotels are not named. This map deliberately does not pinpoint individual hotels. It shows council-level totals and only those large sites the government has itself named in official factsheets.
  • Large sites. Markers show military bases, barracks, vessels and other large sites named in gov.uk factsheets, coloured by status (open, planned or closed/cancelled). Capacity figures are official only where the factsheet states them.
  • Boundaries. ONS Local Authority Districts (December 2024), ultra-generalised; Shetland is shown inset to save space.
